Space Share is a local space-sharing marketplace. We comply with applicable privacy and data protection laws in every market we serve. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect and why — and the rights you have over your data.
The short version
- We collect what we need to run the marketplace — nothing more.
- We never sell your personal information. Ever.
- We don’t allow cross-site advertising trackers on Space Share.
- Your data is stored with trusted cloud providers using regional safeguards where required.
- You can export, correct, or delete your data anytime from your dashboard.
Information we collect
You give us directly
- Account: name, email, phone, profile photo, preferred language
- Hosts: government-issued ID, address, payout bank account, tax info
- Bookings: dates, addresses, messages with the other party, optional notes
- Reviews: text and ratings you submit
We collect automatically
- Usage: pages viewed, listings clicked, search terms (first-party only)
- Device: browser, OS, IP address (used for security and fraud prevention)
- Cookies: essential session cookies plus first-party analytics
From third parties
- Stripe: payment confirmation, fraud signals (no card numbers reach us)
- ID verification provider: pass/fail result and the data class verified
- Google Maps: tile and geocoding requests are routed through our servers when possible
How we use your information
- To run bookings: matching guests and hosts, sending receipts, paying out hosts
- To prevent fraud, abuse, and discrimination on the platform
- To comply with applicable tax, consumer protection, and marketplace laws
- To improve the product through aggregate, de-identified analytics
- To send transactional emails (always) and marketing emails (only if you opt in)
Who we share with
We share only the minimum needed and only with vetted partners under written agreements:
- The other party on a confirmed booking (host ↔ guest)
- Stripe for payments and payouts
- Hosting and database providers for secure app infrastructure
- Twilio / Resend for booking SMS and email
- Law enforcement when legally compelled (we publish a transparency report annually)
We never sell, rent, or trade personal information. We don’t allow third-party advertising pixels on Space Share.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate or out-of-date information
- Delete your account and personal data (limited by tax retention)
- Port your data to another service in machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time
- Object to automated decision-making (we’ll review by hand)
To exercise any of these, email legal@spaceshare.ca or use the “Download my data” button in your dashboard. you can contact our Privacy Officer at the same address.
Data retention
- Account data: until you delete your account
- Booking and tax records: retained as required by applicable law
- Identity verification data: 90 days after verification, then deleted
- Backups: rolling 30-day window, then permanently deleted
International transfers
Our service providers may process data in different regions under appropriate safeguards, data processing agreements, and transfer mechanisms required by applicable law.
Cookies
We use only essential cookies (session, CSRF, language preference) plus a first-party analytics cookie. You can disable analytics from your account settings — essentials are required for sign-in to work.
Children
Space Share is for users 18 and older. We don’t knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has signed up, email us and we’ll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
We’ll email you and post a notice in-app at least 14 days before any material change. Continued use after the effective date means acceptance.
